Diederik Veerman Biofit PRO certified natural fitness coach

Biofit PRO Mr. Diederik Veerman, Founder of PULLKA – a breathing and movement specialist with a passion for biophilia

Where are you based and what do you do for work at the moment?

I’m based in The Hague; the only large city in the Netherlands located at the Dutch coast. I’m the founder of PULLKA; a fullbody workout for nature-loving people.

This worldwide new training method is based on the oldest way of human transport: the sled. The essence is to pull this sled (pulk) with ballast through beautiful nature: beach, dunes, forests, meadows.

PULLKA is mentally recharging and can be made physically challenging.

How does Biofit fit into your natural fitness training?

As an outdoor entrepreneur and trainer i’m constantly eager to improve my training method for groups and individuals. The last few years I dived into the science of breathing, mobility and most recently the natural fitness methodology from BioFit!

Thanks to these inspirations PULLKA has now three different groups sessions based on the five conditions of movement: mobility, stability, endurance, agility and strength.

What is your personal fitness / exercise / sport background?

My sport background has been cycling. After a few years of racing I became spinning instructor for 15 years. But with my move to The Hague I rediscovered my love for the coast. I quit my indoor sports and embraced the coastal outdoors with hiking, winter sea swimming and of course, PULLKA.

Where did your interest in natural fitness come from? Why does it appeal to you?

I’m fascinated by the concept of ‘biophilia’; a beautiful concept that describes the unconditional bond between people and nature. We need nature to improve our health and wellbeing. The same counts for movement and sports.

Combining these two and you get the natural fitness philosophy of BioFit: truly unique because you combine a broad movement methodology with spatial design elements, e.g. biophilia.

What movement was the most fun for you and what movement was the most challenging from the Biofit course?

I really liked all the ground movements, especially all the rolls and the ‘animal stuff’: the cat, elephant, leopard, monkey, etc. This is really fun!

At the same time these were the most challenging since my lower back is not that flexible as Sabine’s (the flexible power woman demonstrating all the exercises in the BioFit course.  But this is what I really like; everyday trying to realise some self-care and improving yourself physically and/or mentally.

How would you describe the Biofit natural fitness philosophy in one sentence?

A fundamental and playful movement method.

If you could open your own natural fitness studio one day, what would it be like and how would it be different to other gyms in your city?

A studio based on as many of the 14 patterns of Biophilic Design. In real this will results in a multi-sensory gym experience. Ideally, one that is so close to nature that we’re able to connect indoor and outdoor.
