GYM DESIGNS FOR FUTURE GYM & FITNESS CENTER PROJECTS
GYM DESIGNS FOR FUTURE GYM & FITNESS CENTER PROJECTS
Do you have an existing dream facility that needs new gym layout ideas? Or plans for a training space that requires a gym floor plan, including an initial idea for the interiors, as well as help to choose equipment, perhaps using advanced 3D gym design software? We can help as your hired gym designers and gym creator providing a wide range of dream gym designs.
We deliver a gym layout and floor plan, as well as creative solutions for health club architecture design using gym planner software and our own interior design mood boards with materials and finishes, decor, ceiling, walls, flooring, storage, lighting and electrical plans. Then there is the small matter of fitness equipment of course!
We cover all equipment zoning for the health club, fitness center or future gym, creating distinct zones for strength, cardio, functional fitness and stretching. Occasionally we look at home gym fit outs London and locations such as Barcelona, Ibiza or Mykonos but mostly we are working with established brands.
For leisure spaces and wellness studios, rather than a boutique fitness studio, other gym spaces or indeed a fitness space, see our dedicated page here.
Not only do we curate bespoke gym equipment lists for each client according to budget, available space, target market, location, sustainability concerns, training typologies and product quality, we also collaborate with trusted manufacturers to adapt standard products to our needs.
As your impartial gym planner we advise on the gym layout, gym designs, gym floor plans and then provide a 3D gym visualization prior to procurement.
For our insights on sustainable gym equipment see here or you may be interested in smart gym equipment here. We watch Technogym very closely looking (in vain) for signs of a sustainability strategy.
As we are unaligned with any one brand in particular we can cruise freely between Life Fitness brands, PowerPlate, Stages, Freemotion, Woodway and many others. Our gym layouts and designs for your future fitness facility are custom-made according to requirements.
With an understanding of the target user demographics, the client’s budget constraints and the immediate aesthetic context around the gym space, we start to ‘zone’ the gym floor plan to allocate training space, prior to populating each zone with a highly curated selection of equipment, often mixing several different brands to create a specific interior design style rather than handing it all over to one equipment brand.
A 3D gym view such as the one above helps illustrate the spacing between the equipment as well as showing the location of structural pillars, emergency exits and so on.
Whether it be Crossfit style functional training with its own specific equipment requirements; smart gym equipment with Virtual Trainer software aimed at a tech-savvy audience; dedicating space for an indoor cycling or yoga studio; or converting a strength machine area of a gym into a recovery and mobility zone.
We are constantly engaged in monitoring trends in our industry in order to offer our clients expert advice on the latest innovations in training styles, equipment and new wellness concepts.
As expert outdoor gym design consultants, we consider outdoor gym flooring options; overhead shade structures; perimeter fencing and security; sound systems; concrete slabs for bolting equipment to; and of course a suitable selection of weather-proof equipment.
Cardio equipment presents the greatest challenge outdoors, especially in wet or humid locations while strength training, functional training and mobility zones are more easily catered for. That said, rowers and bikes with protective covers at night have proven to be a reliable solution.
The fitness center designs we work on have different briefs, in some instances we are working alongside pre-appointed architects responsible for an entire resort or multi-family residential development, with responsibility for the basic look and feel of the gym area falling on their shoulders.
In other instances, we are given full creative freedom to design the interiors of a gym, yoga room or fitness studio. In both cases, we start with an initial moodboard to ensure our gym equipment colours, gym flooring and wall decor are in synch.
Oftentimes, we are recruited as a fitness business consultant with a more strategic focus, doing health club consulting in other words, but a fitness consultation to understand a gym’s goals and vision is our starting point - is it a home gym installation london, a resort gym, a coliving gym, university gym or a personal trainer gym intended for personal training consultation sessions?
Each typology requires a different response so this free fitness consultation is an essential step in our process.
When working on home gym ideas for a modern home gym, we adopt a home gym designer perspective while still integrating our expertise from larger, commercial gym design projects, meaning clients benefit from this breadth of knowledge, even if the home gym is just a spare room in a luxury villa with floor to ceiling mirrors, air conditioning and nothing else.
A cardio-light or sometimes even cardio-free gym with an extensive range of isolation weight machines, dumbbells, kettlebells and, most likely, various sources of protein in the retail corner.
If a commercial gym is a catch-all term for generalist gym facilities then boutique fitness is about focusing on one particular slice of the market and delivering that to a high standard. Concepts include spinning studios, HIIT studios, calisthenics studios, rowing studios and so on.
Essentially any gym that is not in a hotel, resort or office, and operates on a commercial basis, selling day passes, monthly memberships and group sessions. A commercial gym may offer supplementary facilities such as a sauna, steam room, pool and health bar.
An official CrossFit affiliate gym is referred to as a ‘Box’, presumably as the original business concept was a box-shaped garage gym in California where the equipment was minimal, and a few gym tiles laid out on the floor likely sufficed.
Despite common misconceptions, this is in fact about a magical combination of fitness industry, gym equipment and interior design expertise. Most companies will have 1-2 of this holy trinity in-house. Settle for nothing less than all 3-in-1.
The layout of a gym space into schematic areas divided by training style and equipment genre, for example cardio, yoga / stretching, functional training, strength machines, and so on.
The essential pieces of home gym equipment remain the classics -an exercise mat, a bench, two or three sets of dumbbells in various weights, a heavy and a light kettlebell, and a range of exercise bands.
An increasingly important part of the guest experience for many hotels, especially those catering to a health-conscious or business traveler segment. Key equipment will include treadmills and spin bikes, free weights, exercise benches and stretching mats.
More commonly referred to as a residential development gym in the UK, the US-term multi-family residential equates to a development with multiple units for sale, rather than a single-family development. For real estate developers intent on offering a premium residential experience, an on-site gym is now an essential ingredient in ever increasing amenities list, alongside barbecue areas, kids play areas, a cinema room and a coworking space.
A resort gym, as opposed to a hotel gym, is likely to have guests in residence for at least 3 nights, possibly up to 14 nights in some circumstances. This means greater variety is needed when it comes to not just the fitness facilities on offer but the fitness classes and outdoor activities that compliment it too. Resort gyms tend to be larger in size and receive higher guest usage figures than smaller, less impressive hotel gyms that may be little more than a box-ticking exercise for the hotel owners.
Designing for the Purpose Built Student Accommodation (PBSA) segment means a fairly limited floor space but a rare degree of creativity in terms of interior design that would be unthinkable in more corporate gym brand contexts. Two key concepts we consider crucial for a student demographic are ‘smart’ gym equipment / virtual trainer software and sustainability, by combining these two factors we can tailor the gym experience to the values, beliefs and expectations of Gen Z.
Also known as an eco gym or green gym, the sustainable gym remains something of a mythical concept that few even bother to take into consideration when conceptualising a new gym concept and yet… it isn’t all that far off, or needn’t be. A local procurement policy for major items such as equipment and flooring is a good place to start, as is a specification for green and healthy materials in the interior fit-out such as cork, bamboo and wood.
We would typically include a large cardio zone, a strength training area with selectorized machines as well as squat racks and free weights. A stretching area with mobility equipment is now essential, as is a group fitness studio or two for instructor-led activities such as yoga, mat pilates and HIIT training. A functional rig with rings, suspension trainers and calisthenics bars completes the picture.
