Recovery room concept, spa space planning and equipment advisory for a luxury resort spa
Biofit was appointed by Aleenta Resorts / Akaryn Hotel Group to advise on the creation of a dedicated recovery room within the existing spa at Aleenta Phuket Phang Nga, Thailand.
The project focused on the integration of recovery, biohacking and contrast-based wellness experiences into a luxury resort spa environment. The client wanted to explore a compact recovery suite with three principal recovery experiences, supported by clear guest-flow logic, equipment recommendations, supplier information and operational guidance for the spa team.
Project Context
Aleenta Phuket Phang Nga is an established resort spa in Thailand. The objective was not to create a large new spa facility, but to enhance the existing wellness offer with a focused recovery room concept. Our services focused on planning and concept development.
Biofit Scope
Biofit provided specialist recovery room consultancy, including:
recovery room space planning;
assessment of possible locations within the existing spa;
equipment research and comparison;
supplier identification in Thailand and neighbouring markets;
product specification;
budget and CAPEX / OPEX considerations;
guest journey and operational-flow advice;
high-level electrical and technical coordination notes;
review of health and safety considerations;
guidance for spa team operations and training.
The assignment required both strategic judgement and practical coordination, ensuring that recovery technologies were not selected purely for novelty, but assessed against real resort operations.
Recovery Equipment Strategy
The recovery room concept considered several possible modalities, including infrared sauna, cold-water immersion, floatation and cryotherapy.
Biofit compared each option according to:
health and wellbeing benefits;
guest appeal;
ease of use;
technical requirements;
operational complexity;
cleaning and maintenance;
supplier availability;
capital cost;
likely fit with the Aleenta spa experience.
The final advisory work included detailed product review of equipment such as Sunlighten infrared sauna, Dreampod flotation tank / cabin options and Dreampod ice bath with chiller. The comparison included product features, technical requirements, operations, CAPEX and OPEX.
Space Planning
Biofit reviewed multiple possible locations within the existing spa layout for the proposed recovery experiences.
The work included space planning options to test how different equipment types could be integrated while maintaining a comfortable guest journey. Layout studies explored the positioning of recovery equipment including infrared sauna, ice bath, flotation tank and existing spa features such as Vichy / steam treatment areas.
The goal was to avoid simply placing equipment into spare rooms. Instead, the recovery room needed to support a clear sequence, operational practicality and a calm spa experience.
Infrared Sauna Advisory
Infrared sauna was assessed as a relatively accessible recovery modality with strong guest appeal and manageable operational requirements.
Biofit reviewed multiple supplier options, including commercial-grade infrared sauna models, traditional sauna alternatives and smart infrared sauna systems with red light, chromotherapy and digital controls. The review considered size, power, wood type, warranty, maintenance, delivery and installation requirements.
Infrared sauna was particularly relevant because it offered a more contemporary recovery experience than a conventional hotel sauna, while avoiding the heavy wet-zone complexity of a full spa thermal suite.
Cold Plunge / Ice Bath Advisory
Cold-water recovery was reviewed as a compact, high-impact recovery experience with strong relevance to contemporary wellness and active resort guests.
Biofit compared different ice bath solutions, from portable and lower-cost products through to higher-quality commercial spa equipment with external chiller systems. The comparison considered dimensions, filtration, temperature control, portability, warranty, delivery and maintenance.
This helped the client distinguish between visually appealing but operationally basic options and more robust commercial-grade solutions suitable for a luxury resort spa.
Flotation Tank Advisory
Flotation was assessed as a deeper relaxation and nervous-system recovery experience, with strong potential for spa differentiation but higher spatial and operational implications.
Biofit reviewed flotation tank concepts, guest experience, session duration, water temperature, sensory environment, guest comfort, filtration, sanitation and waterproofing requirements.
The advisory work also highlighted practical issues such as salt-water management, anti-slip flooring, waterproofing, cleaning protocols and maintenance requirements — all critical factors in determining whether floatation is appropriate for a resort spa setting.
Operational Considerations
A central part of the assignment was evaluating how each recovery modality would work in practice.
Biofit considered:
whether guest use should be self-guided or spa-team assisted;
how to sequence hot and cold recovery experiences;
how staff would manage guest safety;
cleaning and reset requirements;
maintenance responsibilities;
water, towel and storage needs;
staff training requirements;
health and safety issues;
how the recovery room would integrate with existing spa operations.
This operational lens was essential because recovery technologies can be attractive in concept but demanding in real-world hospitality environments.
Outcome
Biofit delivered a structured recovery room advisory package that helped the client understand the spatial, technical, operational and commercial implications of different recovery technologies.
The work supported decision-making around:
which recovery modalities to prioritise;
how much space each required;
what power / servicing issues needed to be considered;
which suppliers could support the project;
what the resort spa team would need to operate the experience safely and effectively;
how to balance innovation with guest comfort and operational practicality.
Relevance
The Aleenta Phuket Recovery Room project demonstrates Biofit’s ability to advise on compact, high-impact recovery concepts within luxury hospitality environments.
It is especially relevant to hotel owners, developers and operators considering:
recovery rooms;
touchless wellness;
infrared sauna;
cold plunge;
floatation;
low-operational-impact spa innovation;
compact hotel wellness upgrades;
equipment-led spa differentiation.
The project shows how emerging wellness ideas can be translated into practical, space-efficient, hospitality-ready concepts.
