Ikos Resorts (Greece, Spain, Portugal)
Strategic fitness advisory, gym design & outdoor training concepts across a luxury resort portfolio
Biofit worked with Ikos Resorts under a wider strategic advisory relationship covering gym upgrades, outdoor fitness concepts, new resort openings and equipment specification across multiple properties in the group.
This was not a single-project consultancy. It was a multi-year, multi-property advisory role spanning existing resort gym refurbishments, new outdoor gyms, beach gym concepts, in-villa fitness solutions and input into new-build resort gyms. The formal consulting agreement covered strategic partnership and gym advisory, as well as additional services for new-build gyms, refurbishments, outdoor gyms and in-room fitness solutions.
Our role combined pre-design planning, equipment zoning, layout development, specialist supplier research, procurement coordination and custom equipment detailing, helping Ikos align its fitness offer more closely with its premium hospitality positioning.

PROJECT OVERVIEW
Client: Ikos Resorts (Sani-Ikos Group)
Location: Multiple resorts across Greece, Spain and Portugal
Sector: Hospitality / Luxury Resort / Leisure
Project type: Strategic fitness advisory, gym design, outdoor gym design, equipment specification, procurement coordination
Project context: Portfolio-wide advisory role across existing resorts and new openings
Scope: Strategic advisory, gym equipment enhancements, outdoor gyms, in-villa fitness concepts, pre-design planning for new resorts, supplier coordination, custom-branded equipment development
The brief
Ikos wanted to strengthen and modernise its fitness offer across the group while ensuring that each resort gym felt integrated into the wider Ikos design language and guest experience.
That meant going beyond straightforward equipment replacement. The brief required a more strategic approach, including:
upgrades to existing indoor gyms
creation of several new outdoor and beach gym concepts
planning support for new resort openings
fitness solutions for private villas
coordination with project architects and specialist suppliers
customisation of products and finishes to align with the Ikos aesthetic
A recurring priority was to ensure that gyms did not feel like generic third-party installations dropped into high-end resorts. Instead, the fitness spaces needed to feel consistent with the architectural quality, material palette and premium guest expectations of the Ikos brand.
Our role
strategic fitness advisory across multiple properties
pre-design planning for new resort gyms
indoor gym equipment upgrades
outdoor gym and beach gym concepts
gym layouts and equipment zoning
sports flooring specification by zone
supplier research and procurement coordination
branded and custom-finished gym equipment development
in-villa fitness equipment packages for premium accommodation
This made the relationship as much about portfolio-wide fitness positioning as about individual gyms.
Design approach
Our work for Ikos was shaped by four core principles:
1. Integrate fitness into the resort brand experience
The gym needed to feel designed, not merely equipped. This led to close attention on colours, finishes, branded detailing and material selection.
2. Expand capacity through outdoor training
Where indoor gyms were constrained, outdoor gyms provided a way to increase guest training capacity while enriching the active lifestyle offer.
3. Tailor the offer by resort type
Each property had different operational needs, site conditions and guest expectations, so the correct mix of cardio, strength, functional training and private villa equipment varied accordingly.
4. Coordinate closely with architects and specialist suppliers
For new-build resorts in particular, the fitness areas had to be developed in coordination with the project design teams so that flooring, equipment finishes, spatial planning and circulation all aligned with the wider resort concept.
Services provided by Biofit
indoor gym upgrades
private villa fitness solutions
sports flooring specification
supplier research and equipment selection
procurement coordination
custom-branded and custom-finished equipment development
collaboration with project architects on new openings
Custom equipment and brand alignment
One of the most distinctive aspects of the Ikos work was the development of custom-branded and custom-finished fitness equipment.
Biofit worked with specialist suppliers to create equipment better aligned with the Ikos identity, including:
stainless steel dumbbells with Ikos branding CNC-cut into the end plates
adjustable benches with the logo embroidered into the upholstery
bespoke colour matching to specific Ikos brand tones
tailored equipment frame and upholstery selections for new-build projects
This level of detailing was particularly important on the new openings, where the goal was not only operational quality but also visual integration into the wider interior architecture.
Ikos Andalusia
At Ikos Andalusia, Biofit advised on both indoor gym improvements and a new outdoor training area.
The indoor gym enhancement package included a squat stand, barbells, rubber flooring and associated accessories, selected to integrate with the existing all-black Technogym environment. The proposal notes that Eleiko was preferred in several cases because it integrated best with the existing equipment and offered stronger indoor quality.
For the outdoor gym, we created a more substantial functional training set-up including kettlebells, dumbbells, benches, sled work, a WaterRower, a Lacertosus calisthenics rig, battle ropes, rings, climbing rope, TRX and other accessories, together with consultancy, delivery and installation allowances.
We also developed an in-villa fitness equipment set-up for high-spending guests staying in the private villas, allowing families and individuals to train privately in their own accommodation.
Ikos Aria
At Ikos Aria, Biofit upgraded the indoor gym offer and created an outdoor gym area that significantly expanded user capacity.
The outdoor gym procurement list shows a broader functional training set-up with specialist sports flooring, Stages bikes, WaterRower, SkiErg, assault bike, half rack, benches, barbells, kettlebells, medicine balls, plyo boxes, ropes, bands, mats and accessories.
Operationally, this created a CrossFit / functional training-style extension to the indoor gym, giving the resort a more diverse and higher-capacity fitness offer.
Ikos Oceania
At Ikos Oceania, our role focused on equipment upgrades to the indoor gym rather than a full outdoor intervention.
The procurement budget covered a compact but meaningful enhancement package including a half rack, barbells, trap bar, bumper plates, kettlebells, dumbbells, medicine balls, mobility tools, a Stages bike with virtual trainer, eco exercise mats, gym flooring and contingency.
This was a more targeted project than some of the others, but still consistent with the wider Ikos strategy of lifting the technical and aesthetic quality of the gym offer.
Ikos Odisia
Ikos Odisia was one of the strongest and most comprehensive examples of Biofit’s work for the Ikos brand.
As a new opening, it allowed us to shape the gym much more holistically from the outset. We collaborated with the architects to align the equipment finishes with the exact Ikos brand beige required, while also handling equipment zoning, layouts, specification and procurement coordination.
The equipment plan for Ikos Odisia covered:
a substantial cardio zone with Technogym Artis equipment
a strength machine zone using Watson equipment with custom frames and upholstery
a functional strength zone
a functional training area with a custom BeaverFit rig
an outdoor gym
a dedicated group fitness / stretch studio
This project demonstrated how gym planning at resort scale can become part of the wider design and brand experience rather than a late-stage operational afterthought.
Ikos Porto Petro
At Ikos Porto Petro, Biofit again worked in close collaboration with the project architects, in this case Studio Gronda in Madrid.
As with Odisia, the emphasis was on fully integrating the gym into the wider resort aesthetic through:
custom equipment finishes
coordinated flooring colour selection
equipment zoning and layout planning
procurement coordination across indoor and outdoor gym areas
The scope extended beyond the main indoor gym. We also advised on:
an outdoor gym attached to the main gym building
an additional outdoor gym elsewhere on the site
fitness equipment packages for five private villas, designed for high-paying families seeking privacy
Those villa fitness packages were deliberately edited down to essentials such as a spin bike, dumbbells, functional training tools and yoga mats: enough for a credible workout without overcomplicating the guest room environment.
Ikos Kissamos
For Ikos Kissamos, which has now opened in 2026, Biofit advised on:
pre-design planning
flooring specification by zone
equipment layout
equipment specification
This continued the same broader approach used on the other new openings: aligning fitness planning early enough in the process that the gym could feel consistent with the overall project, rather than becoming a disconnected technical space.
Ikos Olivia
At Ikos Olivia Biofit developed a new beach gym concept designed specifically for a resort setting, combining outdoor training equipment with a dedicated on-site storage solution.
The installation was organised around a customised beige container gym with external training attachments and a supporting package of cardio, functional training and free-weight equipment. The procurement schedule included a container gym with fixed accessories, together with a Stages spin bike, WaterRower, assault bike, kettlebells, barbells, bumper plates, battle ropes, weighted vests, TRX, sandbags, plyo boxes and other beach-appropriate functional training tools. The proposal also included nautical rope for a perimeter track, reinforcing the more informal outdoor training character of the concept.
A key practical requirement was the need for the installation to sit on a stable concrete slab capable of supporting heavier equipment safely in an outdoor beachfront context. Because the gym was located externally and exposed to the elements, the project also required its own integrated on-site storage unit, ensuring that equipment could be secured properly and the training area could remain operationally tidy and durable over time.
This project is a good example of Biofit’s approach to resort outdoor gyms: not simply placing equipment outside, but creating a more resolved training environment with the right combination of storage, weather-conscious specification, guest usability and brand-appropriate aesthetics.
Ikos Cortesia
Biofit also advised on the initial pre-design planning for the future Ikos Cortesia resort gym in Portugal.
This project later paused indefinitely due to local administrative issues, but the involvement still formed part of the wider strategic relationship and showed the degree to which Ikos was using Biofit not only for procurement recommendations, but also for early-stage planning support on upcoming openings.
The consulting agreement itself explicitly covered Ikos Cortesia among the client entities and structured the relationship as an ongoing partnership for resort gym development strategy and additional services.
our collaboration with the ikos resort collection was perfectly timed with a period of expansion, so we were asked to upgrade existing gyms in the portfolio, add new outdoor gyms to the existing properties and help to plan future gym facilities in the new-build resort pipeline– Matt Aspiotis Morley
Supplier strategy
Across the Ikos portfolio, Biofit worked with a mix of specialist suppliers depending on the needs of each site and the design intent of the project.
These included brands such as:
Technogym
Watson
BeaverFit
Lacertosus
Eleiko
Rogue
Stages
WaterRower
Casall
TRX
ARTZT
Paviflex
The selection logic varied by property, but broadly balanced:
durability and hospitality suitability
visual fit with the Ikos brand
opportunity for customisation
performance quality
capacity expansion through outdoor training
sustainable or more natural material choices where appropriate
New-build collaboration with architects
A particularly important part of the Ikos work was the collaboration with the project architects on new-build resorts.
For properties such as Ikos Odisia, Ikos Porto Petro, Ikos Kissamos and Ikos Cortesia, Biofit’s contribution extended into the early design stages, covering:
space planning input
equipment zoning
flooring strategy
supplier coordination
alignment of equipment finishes with the architectural palette
The original consulting framework explicitly anticipated these services, including input on floor plans, interior architecture, space planning, supplier research, flooring research and project management coordination for new-build resort gyms.
Outcome
The Ikos Resorts relationship shows how a luxury resort group can take a more considered, brand-led and operationally sophisticated approach to fitness across an entire portfolio.
Rather than treating gyms as back-of-house technical requirements, the work repositioned them as part of the premium guest experience. Across the group, Biofit helped deliver:
stronger indoor gym offers
expanded training capacity through outdoor gyms
more distinctive functional training areas
private villa fitness options for premium guests
improved integration between gym design and wider resort aesthetics
early-stage fitness planning for major new openings
For Biofit, this remains a strong reference for portfolio-wide hospitality fitness consultancy, especially where gym planning needs to sit at the intersection of guest experience, procurement, design coordination and brand expression.
