How to Design Thor’s Gym at Home

Designing a home gym - take YOUR inspiration from Chris Hemsworth!

You’d have to be living under a rock, or locked in the gym 24/7 not to understand how popular the Marvel franchise has been over the last decade. It has helped make stars of certain actors, with recurring roles in many of the big movies.

One of those who have benefitted is Chris Hemsworth, who has played the Norse God Thor in several films, both as the lead and supporting cast. He’s made a great Thor thanks to his dedication in the gym, body shape and functional training regime, as well as his acting. It is almost impossible not to think of the Australian actor when one thinks of Thor now, which is serious praise.

The character of Thor hasn’t just appeared in Marvel films; he has long been depicted in comic books and even video games. As Game Rant reveals, he has been in PC games such as Too Human and Kamigami no Asobi. His likeness has proven popular on mobile devices, with a good example being the Cheeky Bingo online slot titled Power of Thor Megaways, which uses his imagery.

They’re not the only ones to bring the God of Thunder to the small screen; Thor: The Dark World and Thor: War of Tapnarok on iOS and Android also feature his likeness. All of that digital media plays into Hemsworth’s popularity; he is Thor in many people’s eyes, and that makes him a pop-culture role model.

That’s why he is an inspiration for many because they see him as a superhero. He certainly looks like one, finely honed and muscle-bound and yet not overly so. He achieves this look by working hard at functional movements with his personal trainer and lifelong friend Luke Zocchi and using his extensive home gym that has been designed for maximum efficiency.

That gym featured in an article by Self has been seen in multiple social media posts from the star.

If you’re looking at designing a home gym, you might want to do it in the same way as Thor, aka Chris Hemsworth.

Tip no.1 - A variety of gym equipment

It can be tempting to focus on a home gym according to your specific requirements, but if you want to look like Thor, you’re going to need a variety of machines. Hemsworth has a three-car garage converted to a gym at his Malibu mansion, and within that, there is a wide range of machines. He has a pull-up bar, punching bag, two types of exercise bikes, a treadmill and a huge range of different weights to ensure his well-rounded workout is effective. It might not be easy for you to spend so much on equipment, but it is important to remember elements such as exercise bikes, even if you’re a dedicated lifter.

tip no.2 - the right Gym lighting

It is easy to think that any nook or cranny will do when it comes to a home gym. However, any workout can become stressful, and repetition can lead to boredom. Even if you have the variety of machines that Hemsworth has, it might still be a struggle to motivate yourself, especially if you’re not actually going to play the God of Thunder.

Try to follow his lead and keep your space light and airy. Yes, he has plenty of space to utilize, but the walls are white, and those garage doors let in plenty of light. Make your gym enjoyable to be in, rather than it feeling like a punishment room.

tip no. 3 - choose A home gym design that inspires you

Hemsworth’s gym has some inspiration on the walls; there’s a Ghostbusters movie poster, which may be due to his involvement in the reboot. He also has a Bruce Lee poster and a Yoda pinup too. Lee is an icon for many and certainly likely to get you motivated, whilst Yoda’s quotes are often motivational. You can choose your own, but if you’re looking for real motivation, why not find a Thor-based movie poster for your wall, so you can keep one eye on the man whose gym you’re emulating?
